The museum is well known for housing many of Francois Boucher’s finest and best-loved works, including this ironically light and airy depiction of a violent tale from Ovid’s, Metamorphoses. The story describes Europa’s abduction by Jupiter, who disguised himself as a bull in attempt to charm her, and lead her away to Crete.
